"Spanish Sahara," originally by Mercury Prize nominees
Foals, has gotten quite the makeover courtesy of dubstep producers/djs
Bar9. The remix takes the quiet, slow-building original and transforms it into a dubstep monster with some pounding half-time drums, a choppy, aggressive bassline, and some unfortunately overwrought autotuning that's the only blemish on an otherwise great track. The remix, while not an official release, hit number 15 on hypemachine and is available for free download via Bar9's
Soundcloud account.
Bar9 are currently riding a wave of successful singles and remixes to the top of the dubstep world: they are coming off the release of their latest single "Piano Tune" and have also remixed drum'n'bass trio
Noisia's "Split the Atom," British singer and rapper
Example's UK smash "Kickstarts," and Goldhawks' "Keep the Fire" (also a free download through their soundcloud). Bar9 will be on tour in Canada and in the UK for the rest of the fall.
Foals may have lost out on this year's Mercury Prize to
the xx, but they will be keeping busy with a North American and UK tour beginning in October. "Spanish Sahara," the first release as a music video off their latest album
Total Life Forever, was also released as a 7" limited edition single during the spring. -
