Webster Hall was packed with teenagers and NYC hipsters this past Saturday night when California Wives
, Diamond Rings
graced the stage. California Wives started the evening off with songs from their debut album, Art History
. After performing rock infused indie-pop hits like "Blood Red Youth" and "Tokyo," you could tell why the band was a good fit as an opener for Stars: the band has a similar soothing quality that is often seen in songs from Stars.
Diamond Rings followed California Wives' performance, but was a bit of a surprise as an opener for Stars. Diamond Rings is a modern day combination of Billy Idol and Depeche Mode. His performance seemed a little too electro to complement the other two artists on the playbill. John O'Regan, lead singer of Diamond Rings, looked as if he was in the movie Party Monster
. O'Regan really got the crowd dancing with "I'm Just Me," his latest single. He continued to share songs from his upcoming record debuting on 10/15.
Following O'Regan's performance, Stars made their stage presence known; and like most of their shows, they played a great assortment of music from all of their albums. The band played electro-romantic tracks like "Hold On When You Get Love And Let Go When You Give It" and "The Theory of Relativity."
Without a doubt, Stars know how to appease their longtime fans -- the band played "Ageless Beauty" for a fan who attended 22 of their shows on their current tour. Surprisingly enough, they even played "Elevator Love Letter," one of their older hits. "When Your Ex-Lover Is Dead" was performed, people in the crowd started handing out flowers from bouquets to throw during the song, complementing the tragic love story that goes along with that track.
All in all, Webster Hall was packed in and the crowed left beyond happy (and with a free digital download of Starss new album, The North
