*Our exact thought process when we saw that Sam Smith
had finally released his theme song, "Writing's On The Wall," for the latest James Bond film, Spectre
Oh, hey. Sam Smith finally dropped his Bond theme. It's called "Writing's On The Wall." That's a neat title. I want to check this out. Alright. Click play. I hope it's goo...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Jokes aside, gosh, this isn't a great look for Sam Smith. First Sam Smith gets in trouble for plagiarizing one of his biggest hits. And now he's released possibly the worst Bond theme since a-Ha's theme for The Living Daylights
. I'm not one of those folks who generally thinks Bond themes are good. Adele's wasn't bad for Skyfall
but it shouldn't have won an Oscar or anything, but the "good" Bond themes are generally fun in a campy sort of way. Sam Smith's new theme is just all big sweeping strings and his trembling voice without seeming to actually be about anything. Maybe it will work better when it's paired with the always great opening art of a Bond film but til then, it mostly makes me want to take a nap. Here's hoping everything else about Daniel Craig's Bond send-off is better than yet another Sam Smith snoozefest.
