Dev Hynes Demos for Britney Spears Surface in the Ether

Dev Hynes has forgotten better shit than you've ever thought of, and Britney Spears has passed on better shit than you'll ever be invited to comment on. For instance, the two demo tracks that leaked into the ether yesterday. Hynes' producing chops range from the success of his own project, Blood Orange, to his work for artists like Solange Knowles, Florence + The Machine—check out a before-they-were-famous gem of a SXSW Baeble Showcase with Dev and Flo covering The Strokes' "Heart In A Cage" in our archives—Sky Ferreira, and a few dudes too (Basement Jaxx, The Chemical Brothers).

The leaked demos were recorded for Britney's 2013 album Britney Jean, but Spears ultimately passed, and you can see why. These beats, while fucking sick, have a shady darkness to them that Britney Jean just doesn't. They'd be more suited for the Sky Ferriera's and Solange's of the industry; much more soulful than the robo-pop direction Britney Jean, and T.I., ended up taking.

So the tracks got shelved, and then swiped, and no one seems to be too worried about it, because Dev Hynes has forgotten better shit than you've ever thought of, and Britney Spears already passed.
