Apparently budding pop superstar Charli XCX
isn't done "breaking all of the rules," oh no. If you thought she was so wildly anarchic when she jumped from an independent label to Atlantic and Asylum, or when she so courageously declared "I don't wanna go to school, I just wanna break the rules," then you'll be shocked to hear that she's, get this, delaying her newest record, Sucker
, for two months. Why? According to her twitter feed
, it's because she "needs to put (sic) the date back so (she) can launch the album properly." But then she also says the reason for this delay is because "Boom Clap," the first single from the album, is just so loved. So wait, if people hadn't enjoyed "Boom Clap" she would have just gone and rushed this album out? Is that what she's saying? Somewhere, something's not adding up.
I'm not gonna lie, this strikes me as just a bit beyond condescending. Looking at the language ("I'm overwhelmed by the support for boom clap (sic) & the support from all u (sic) angels "), this delay is being treated as something of a treat for us, the kiddies, a reward for the diligent fulfillment of our duties as consumers. But if the album is actually "DONE," if it is as Charli contends and nothing is "wrong" with the album then why the delay? Why the unclear reason and the hidden message that 'if you hadn't liked this single I would have rushed the album out?!' Oh, that's right: there's no reason for any of this besides the obvious cynical, manipulative marketing. Yawn. Thanks for being as predictable as we'd all guessed you'd be, Charli. Don't stop breakin' them rules, you rebel, you!
