Thrash-pop outfit Ponytail have skidded to a halt (for real this time). It's always a bummer when a band you like breaks up with you, especially one with such maniacal, uncompromising energy. Last words blame the break on the difficulty of touring now that Ponytail's members reside in different locations. At least we'll be left with their recorded commitment to the cause of getting kids to dance like a physical catastrophe. Noise is catharsis, eh?
Their goodbye gift to fans is a video for "Easy Peasy", the first track off of their We are Free release Do Whatever You Want All the Time. The song hangs heavy with tension at first, eking and looping until it bolts into absolute bedlam of erratic and gleeful guitar waves and Molly Siegel's shrieking. She bombards us with "We're running out of time", and due to their now-defunct stance, it's fitting to realize that time is a precious thing. We shouldn't waste it sitting at computers. We should waste it in dingy basements, living our brains out. The video features found footage of cool things like manatees, elephants, kittens (duh), and live footage from their uber-visceral shows. Good times have gotta come to an end, but I'm not worried that Ponytail will fade out. There was no way to turn the volume down anyhow.
