Summer is dying down here in New York, (and it's Yom Kippur!), so this week the artists get a break. We've got kind of an all-over-the-place mix, courtesy of my musical schizophrenia (Thanks! You're welcome!). But hey, it's Friday, and there are some solid jams to be had! Have at it, ears. See you next week. JOE OUT.

1. "Memories" - Weezer - Hurley
First track off the controversially named, un-kosher-ly curated Hurley
, which I really enjoy. I know. But it's catchy! Memmmmmmmmmories.
2. "Lookin' For Ya" - Big Boi (Ft. Andre 3000) - b-side
Some of the b-sides from Sir Lucious Leftfoot
are better than most of the record. Like this faux-Outkast track featuring his other half, 3000, who drops one of the more impressive verses of the YEAR (plus has two on the track).
3. "Only The Young" - Brandon Flowers - Flamingo
Yeah, it's Brandon Flowers. Yeah it's goofy, and it sounds like a Don Henley solo record. But I like Don Henley solo records, and I like The Killers, always have. Tough to deny this guy has a really unique voice, and this song is kind of very enjoyable.
4. "Wavlngth" - Headless Horseman
My favorite new rising act in the New York vacinity. Obsessively cool. Two dudes who make high pitched beat music. Sorry for misspelling your name and accidentally calling you girls. You guys are great.
5. "Good Friday" - Kanye West - G.O.O.D. Friday
Geez. Ye has been destroying the wires, releasing a new track every Friday for the past few weeks for free via blog
. Go get them all, they are all pretty awesome if not VERY awesome. This one features a buffet of guests, including Common, Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Big Sean, and Charlie Wilson.
6. "Mirrors" - Crocodiles - Sleep Forever
This band is on the fast track for notoriety this year, coming out of the SoCal noise scene with an awesome new record produced by James Ford (who produced the Klaxons and Arctic Monkeys). Sleep Forever
is out this week.
7. "On My Shoulders" - The Do - A Mouthful
These recently "Best Of Show" annointed Frenchies have a pretty awesome, relatively unknown record called A Mouthful
, and it's an earful. Check it out.
8. "Little River" - The Tallest Man On Earth - Sometimes The Blues Is Just A Passing Bird
God damn, Kristian Matsson is consistently excellent. New short EP with a long name, worth every penny.
9. "I Don't Believe You" - The Thermals - Personal Life
How is it that intentionally politically neutral Thermals sound like politically charged Ted Leo? It might be the similarity in the voices of Leo and lead singer Hutch Harris... In any event, Personal Life
is on heavy rotation.
10. "Everlyn" - Someone Still Loves You, Boris Yeltsin - Let It Sway
The guys did this song at our GA session last week (pending release) and it's totally been stuck in my head since. Let It Sway
is out now, and it's a pretty rocking collection of songs if you're into the SSLYBY sound.
