It was
Fruit Bats' glassy fits of perfectly concocted pop that brought us to
the Music Hall of Williamsburg a few nights back. It's been quite some time since the band last graced our dear city.
Eric Johnson has spent the last few years playing second fiddle in bands like The Shins and Vetiver. Fun as it probably was, Johnson no doubt missed his own work, assembling a new band to record a quaint little number in
The Ruminant Band (see
REVIEW), released earlier this summer for the fine folks at
Sub Pop.
Which of course gives reason to tour. Somehow, someway this would be the band's first ever proper gig in Brooklyn. And not surprisingly they would provide a feel good set that was precisely true to the band's recorded form. Of course, an enthusiastic, live environment always adds a little something something to the mix, and in this case, the lights, the stage, the amps, the crowd all afforded the band just a bit more punch, courtesy of some awfully sure handed drum work, and some definite bass anchoring it all down. -
