Theres a chance you haven't heard of Nick Hakim
, so you're welcome in advance. If you're a cool kid in Brooklyn, you might have seen him during his month-long residency at Baby's All Right this summer, but if not, let me let you in on the soulful Brooklyn secret that is Hakim.
In the shortest description possible the kid is modern blues. His sound is R&B, soul, blues, and soundscape ballad, so it's really just something else. He has the vocal talent and soulful lean of John Legend, washed with the gentle indie rock of someone like Beach House
, and waxed with the echo of Frank Ocean. It's a gorgeous hybrid of soundscape and soul that sits on the laid back side of rhythm and blues without sacrificing pensiveness. The music is chill without being mindless, it's lyrical and emotional without being overbearing, it's just solid music with nothing to prove.
