Toro y Moi and Astronauts Simmer on Elton John Cover

We here at Baeble have a pretty firm theory about covers. If you're going to cover a song, you need to either do something totally new with it (Jimi Hendrix and Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower") or somehow be even better than the original (Pearl Jam and Wayne Cochran's "Last Kiss"). And if you're going to cover one of the most beloved songs of all time, you definitely need to bring your A game. Toro y Moi and Astronauts brought their A game to a left-field cover of Elton John's "Rocket Man" and it works more than it has any right to. Turning the piano ballad into a hazy disco/70s soul simmering burner, it makes me want to hear more of what Chazwick can do with Elton John's back catalogue. Can he do "Daniel" next?
