All-female indie-rock quartet
Warpaint has released a free mp3 of the first single "Undertow" from their forthcoming debut album
The Fool. The tune is largely driven by seriously echoey harmonized vocals, with the instruments barely present in the mix (save for a brief guitar intro) until the song begins to gather some rhythmic momentum about halfway through. If you don't mind the narcotic pacing, there are some excellently catchy melodies and cool harmonies buried in the sea of delay and reverb.
Warpaint has been gathering buzz on tour with such luminaries as Yeasayer and Vampire Weekend and is currrently about to kick off a tour opening for Mercury Prize winners The xx. They will follow their stint with The xx with a headlining European tour.
The Fool will be released on Rough Trade on October 25th. The single can be downloaded below. -
