Today is just another day. The sun rises and sets, the world turns. We will publish some videos and clever blog posts in the hopes on entertaining and engaging you. We like to do this and we keep getting better at it as time passes.
But today is not just another day for us all. We are taking a moment to remember the lives lost in the suicidal mania that gripped the hijackers of the planes that day and then those as we perused vengeance overseas. I was there that day but safely observed from a distance. I lost an acquaintance or two that day and had a close brush as one of my people was scheduled to fly on the plane out of DC but chose to take an earlier flight. One friend went to no less than fifty funerals in the weeks after.
The events of the day were searing and indelible. My children carry them around with them like muscle memory. One still can't take loud noises and other flashes out in intense anger when she sees her peers post selfies from the 9/11 Memorial feeling that it cheapens the pain and suffering of all involved.
I really thought that I had my emotions under control over this day until I sat at my desk and saw the Budweiser video that was created shortly after the attacks. I am told it only aired once but of course lives on in YouTube. The scab was ripped open and the pain flooded back.
So today take a moment and remember the lives and subsequent sacrifices of all involved across the globe.
