A few years ago, famous person Joaquin Phoenix, star of such films as Gladiator, Walk The Line and Signs, took a hard left turn while driving on the windy road of life. He told the world he wanted to quit acting and become a rapper. He gained some weight, grew a beard and a set of permanent sunglasses, and gave us some very entertaining Youtube videos of him beating up fans at rap shows. Later, it was revealed that pseudo-famous person Casey Affleck and supporting actor of such films as Chasing Amy and other films starring his brother, would direct a documentary about the transformation. Naturally, some people were skeptical.
It's ready for release. Watch the trailer below.
Many believe the whole thing to be an elaborate fabrication by both Affleck and Phoenix (I mean, do you believe this sh*t?). It doesn't help their case that the two are old friends, or that Affleck is married to Phoenix's sister. The rumor mill is already churning (the movie was recently shown to potential buyers)... the whole thing is supposedly a Mockumentary through and through. As long as it doesn't turn out to be some insane viral marketing for Ray Bans, I'm in!
According to the LA Times, the movie features "more male frontal nudity than you'd find in some gay porn films and a stomach-turning sequence in which someone feuding with Phoenix defecates on the actor while he's asleep". I need an adult.
The film hits theaters 9/10. Awkward classic Letterman visit by Phoenix (as the rapper) below. -joe puglisi
