A lot has happened in the music world during this first full week of August. As obvious as that may sound, the hilarious nonsensical videos were in abundance for some reason. From middle school musicals to quarterback rap duos, check out the highlights of the week.
Mumford and Sons - "Hopeless Wanderer"
Mumford and Son's provided us with one of the funniest music videos...maybe ever? Maybe a bold statement, but the cast is certainly hard to top. Poking fun at their occasionally ridiculous old-fashioned barnyard image, the band hired four instantly recognizable funnymen to act in their places.
Breaking Bad Middle School Musical
Those of you who have yet to see Breaking Bad may want to skip this one (spoiler alert). The adventures of our favorite meth-cooking science teacher are portrayed by a group of middle school children. The songs are surprisingly clever and in accordance to the actual plot of the show. And they change "crystal meth" to "rock candy," so it's fun for the whole family.
Hot Miley Cyrus in Big Sean's "Fire"
Big Sean's music video for "Fire" struck interest from a large audience, not necessarily for the quality of the video itself, but for the controversial figure who was the center of attention. Continuing to build an image that might end up leading her into Amanda Bynes' Looneyville, Miley Cyrus struts her new step and highly questionable hairdo for the Detroit rapper's new track.
Lady Gaga's Nudie Galavant
Now onto the most disturbing footage of the week (or perhaps the year), Lady Gaga practices a thing called the Abramovic Method. Somewhere between the yellow spiky-eye goggles and the naked blindfold walk, my interest in participation was lost. But hey, that's just me. It would come as no surprise to me if she gives birth to satan after performing this ritual.
Kishi Bashi's New Single
Kishi Bashi's fun-loving song "Philosophize In It! Chemicalize With It!" is sure to bring a smile to your face (even though it's already Friday). As it says on the single artwork, Kishi Bashi emits "joyful noise", which is quite honestly the perfect way to explain this whirlwind of strings and sounds.
S O H N Live at Hype Hotel
Live at Hype Machine's Hype Hotel in Austin, Texas, check out this awesome performance by SOHN. If it is humanly possible to shred on a synthesizer, then these guys have done just that.
The Kopecky Family Band visited us for an intimate interview and acoustic performance of several songs of of their recently released album, Kids Raising Kids."Heartbeat", "Are You Listening", and "Hope" were all gorgeously performed in a cabin-like apartment on Wall Street. Many laughs and stories were shared in between.
The legendary Bob Dylan announced a reissue of his 1970 studio album Self Portrait. It will be a four-disc release featuring recording from acoustic sessions as well as some album cuts. His rendition of "Pretty Saro" along perfectly to its new video, which features a collage from 1940s-On Farm Security Administrations archives. This is one with the potential to bring a tear to the eyes of any longtime Dylan fan.
Peyton and Eli Manning Rap Attack
For football fans, this is a must-watch. Coming from the two players you'd expect to have the least amount of rap skills, check out the Manning brothers spit hot fiya in their bit for DirecTV. On top of their mean rhymes, they've got some killer preseason hairdos that we all hope they consider maintaining for opening day.
That's this week in a nutshell. Great start to the month of August.
