We've been watching the London Riots with growing concern for the safety of the city's people as well as its property, but we never imagined a hit like this. Around 4AM GMT, looters burned down a Sony property which housed inventory for PIAS UK, a distributor for nearly a dozen indie labels like Beggars Group, Sub Pop, Rough Trade, Domino, 4AD, the Secretly Canadian group, Mute, Ninja Tune, Soul Jazz, Kompakt, Thrill Jockey and Drag City. The destruction will directly impact their distribution in the UK, as the warehouse was the only place storing their products in the country. Acts we've filmed (Two Door Cinema Club, The Temper Trap) are among those who suffered massive inventory loses. Our hearts go out to them.
Luckily, no one was harmed in the blaze. See the harrowing fire below and join us in continuing to wonder how this "political statement" is anything but destructive.
