After experiencing success with a band signed to a major record label, Sam Martin and Simon Katz found themselves creatively stagnant. The band lost the label and the Martin/Katz duo began to make music in a bedroom, starting from scratch. Sometimes bands disband for the right reasons and musicians recharge their creativity.
Youngblood Hawke (the result of their collaboration) is a look into the autonomous effort bred through reinvention. Many bands, most bands, start in a bedroom (or bedroom-like space) but not many find themselves there after a taste of success.
"We Come Running" is a catchy, unique single. Great for the end of the summer. Everything from the intro, sung by a chorus of young voices, to the sound quality is appealing. The true definition of an "anthem."
The band's self-titled debut EP is out on August 14th.
