  • Beck's New Album Is Being Released Only In Sheet Music Form
The wait is over for new Beck tunes -- well, sort of. In one of the most original promotional moves the music industry has seen, Beck has released two tracks ("Do We? We Do" and "Don't Act Like Your Heart Isn't Hard") from his upcoming album, Song Reader. The kicker? If you wanna hear 'em, you'll have to do it yourself. The tracks are only available in sheet music form.

While the goal was to give the 'listener' a more intimate experience with the tracks, giving them an opportunity to bring them to life, more many (myself included) it doesn't really give us anything. For the non-musician readers, at least take some confort in knowing that the 20-song album is set to be released in December. For those of you out there who are musically gifted, enjoy this incredible opportunity to interpret songs from one of music's greats.

    From McSweeney's:

In the wake of Modern Guilt and The Information, Beck's latest album comes in an almost-forgotten formtwenty songs existing only as individual pieces of sheet music, never before released or recorded. Complete with full-color, heyday-of-home-play-inspired art for each song and a lavishly produced hardcover carrying case (and, when necessary, ukelele notation), Song Reader is an experiment in what an album can be at the end of 2012an alternative that enlists the listener in the tone of every track, and that's as visually absorbing as a dozen gatefold LPs put together. The songs here are as unfailingly exciting as you'd expect from their author, but if you want to hear "Do We? We Do," or "Don't Act Like Your Heart Isn't Hard," bringing them to life depends on you.

Head over the Beck's partner in the endeavor, McSweeney's, for more details.
