It doesn't feel too long ago that Hippo Campus, the Minnesota based pop-rock quartet, took the stage at Baby's All Right
, marking their first headlining performance in New York City. With that show, I was completely convinced that they would be one of the most promising new bands to keep an eye on over the next year. Throughout the show, the band successfully managed to keep the audience's attention, despite the amount of unreleased or untitled tracks they played. Their latest single, "South," was one of these unreleased tracks that I can specifically remember. The mere fact that I can recall frontman Jake Luppen's incredibly catchy harmonization with co-frontman and guitarist Nathan Stocker really says something about these guys, and I'm looking forward to hearing their new material.
"South" is directly in line with their past releases, containing the bright, upbeat guitars of Local Natives
and orchestra-pop atmosphere of WU LYF
