The sparingly simple, yet ever-popular drums and guitar combo has graced the world with many successful musical acts over the years. From The White Stripes to the Black Keys, hard rocking duos tend to bring tons of energy and excitement to the stage because they are tasked with creating a wall of sound as only two people. Canadian musician and noted rebellious personality, Calvin Love, seems to understand the potential power such a partnership provides and we were lucky enough to see him perform live in Austin at Hype Machine's Hype Hotel. Also outfitted with an array of computer based electronic elements, Love takes the guitar and drum combo in a new, more psychedelic direction. With a sound that carries the room like lo-fi indie-pop with a punk edge, Calvin Love has expounded upon all of his various musical backgrounds in his initial foray into the world of solo-artistry. His debut album, New Radar is due out on Autumn Tone Records this fall and we hope it lives up to our high expectations after this excellent performance.
