There are important moments in every musicians career -- when they cut their first cd, when they win a Grammy and when they're featured on The Simpsons. Over its twenty-three seasons this iconic cartoon series has cameoed everyone from Mick Jagger to Sonic Youth to Barry White to The Smashing Pumpkins and every member of the Beatles. Most recently The Decemberists announced that they will make an appearance in this season. Here's a look back at some of my favorite musical guests that have cameoed on the show over the years.

1. Red Hot Chili Peppers

When competition forces Krusty's show off the air in "Krusty Gets Kancelled," the clown turns to the Simpson's kids for help. Lisa recruits bands, including The Red Hot Chili Peppers, to appear and help revived Krusty's show. They're also asked to play Moes, but arrive to find it empty except for Barney (who is cheering for an entirely different band).

2. Elton John

In "I'm With Cupid," Elton John lands unexpectedly in Springfield. His onboard chandelier caused problems with the plane and they're forced to make an emergency landing. At the airport he runs into Apu. He is then recruited to help save Apu and Manjula's marriage, by performing for the couple.

3. Johnny Cash

In "El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer" (The Mysterious Voyage of Homer), Homer ingests some Guatemalan Insanity Peppers and then wanders through the desert in a hallucinatory stopper. It is there that Homer encounters a tortoise, who leads him to a mythical coyote. The coyote, voiced by Johnny Cash, advises him to find his soul mate.

4. The Flight of the Conchords

The New Zealand duo appeared in the episode "Elementary School Musical" as two artsy camp counselors. Using a combination of references to the Wellington Botanical Gardens and their New Zealand accents, they try and teach Lisa and the other campers about hecklers.

5. The Ramones

During the episode "Rosebud," Mr. Burns mopes over the loss of his childhood toy, a stuffed bear named Bobo. The Ramones are hired to cheer him up and celebrate his upcoming birthday. They perform a punk rock rendition of "Happy Birthday". The appearance was apparently a career highlight for the band who were huge fans of the show.
