The other day I was watching Unsolved Mysteries re-runs, because they're the best, and I saw a pre-Dazed and Confused Matthew McConaughey get shot in a garage during one of the terribly awesome reenactments. Ever since, the guy has lived a typecast Hollywood life of a handsome, Southern buffoon. It seems at the ripe age of 43, however, McConaughey is entering a domain of compelling award-worthy roles. After playing the lead in my favorite 2012 flick, Mudd, the actor has a slew of promising films on the horizon including the highly-anticipated Scorsese piece Wolf of Wall Street and the much-chatted Christopher Nolan film Interstellar. Today, we caught our first look at his sure-to-be stellar leading role in Dallas Buyers Club.
The synopsis via Focus Features:
The story of Texas electrician Ron Woodroof and his battle with the medical establishment and pharmaceutical companies after being diagnosed as HIV-positive in 1986, and his search for alternative treatments that helped established a way in which fellow HIV-positive people could join for access to his supplies.
McConaughey mirrored Christian Bale in the Machinist to get down to the true weight of the HIV-infected character. He is also joined by Jared Leto (the lady on the left in the photo above) who likewise dropped 40-plus lbs. for the role.
How's it all tie to music, you ask? The trailer features a kick-ass tune from Brittany Howard and her Alabama Shakes. Watch below.
Dallas Buyers Club is set to hit theaters November 1st.
