  • Baeble Music's Starting Five
Earlier today it was announced that Win Butler of Arcade Fire will be hitting the court once again to play in the second annual Pop vs. Jock charity basketball game as part of POP Montreal (which looks amazing). Last year, Butler teamed up with Chris Tomson of Vampire Weekend, and this year Nikolai Fraiture from The Strokes will be a teammate. Both these guys are over six feet tall, so we assume they can hold their own in the paint. But if we at Baeble had to field a team of indie stars, we'd do it a little differently. Now announcing: your 2012 Baeble Ballers.

Center - Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth)

My man Thurston is a full 6'6"! Sure, he's not getting any younger, but all we need him to do is put his arms in the air and get those boards. Plus, the guy's got attitude.

Power Forward - Win Butler (Arcade Fire)

Tall, experienced, charismatic, and an unparalleled ability to sweat buckets and just keep on chugging. Also, I get the feeling that Win Butler throws a lot of elbows down low. You can't teach grit.

Small Forward - Noah Lennox (Panda Bear, Animal Collective)

This piece of the indie darling group Animal Collective was apparently a skilled high-school baller. At almost six feet tall, he's also been known to care more about watching basketball games than doing interviews. Sign him up!

Shooting Guard - Justin Vernon (Bon Iver)

Any dude who earned Kanye West's respect by balling is good enough for our team. And if his game's anything like his music, he'll lull you into a false sense of security, and before you know it he'll have 100 points.

    Point Guard - Prince

    We heard he's pretty good.

On the Bench - Lana Del Rey

Tall and slender, probably great at taking a charge and/or flopping. Also, have you seen the girl's hands? There is no doubt in my mind that she can palm a basketball.
