Chicago natives AM Taxi are making a splash in the music scene with a mix of old-school punk, world beat, and modern pop on their Virgin Records debut We Don't Stand A Chance. The band is currently on Warped Tour and I was able to catch up with Adam Krier (vocals/guitar) and Jason Schultejann (bass) for a quick chat.

Could you you introduce yourself and tell us a little about your musical background?

Adam Krier: This is Adam from AM Taxi.
Jason Schultejann: I'm Jason from AM Taxi.
Adam: We've been playing together for three years. Me and Jay have been jamming together for about fifteen years and this band started about three years ago with the addition of our drummer, my neighbor, and his brother, Johnny and Luke. And we have a new album out.

What genre do you consider your music to be?

Jason: Uh, rock and roll, classic punk rock.
Adam: It's rock music that's influenced by punk rock.

Where do you get your inspiration from and who are your biggest influences?

Adam: We get our inspiration from, we do a lot of tours, we do a lot of traveling you know, so you meet people everywhere you go and there's all these interesting people with all these interesting stories. You cant help but take from that and put it in your music. As far as influences go, its all over the board but its a lot of old punk rock, a lot of 60s soul and garage rock oldies and then like some sort of modern punk and indie rock as well, like Spoon or Alkaline Trio.

How do you feel, playing with Alkaline Trio?

Adam: Oh it's great. Theyre from Chicago, so are we, so it's kind of nice to hear some midwest music.

How do you think you've grown as individuals and as musicians since being in the band?

Jason: Good question. Well, we're a tighter band. We've been on the road together for ten years on and off so the other 3 guys are starting to...tour over the last year and a half and that's definitely bringing...bringing all of us together.
Adam: Cool to watch them get the road and understand it. And at first they were kind of like new to it, a little bit green but excited to be doing it, and now theyre pretty much totally understanding what its all about and its cool to watch that happen.

What's your favorite thing about playing a tour like Warped?

Adam: I get to eat normal food. I didn't have lunch today so I'm having Gobstoppers, a fan gave these to me.
Jason: Yeah catering is great. Seeing a lot of cool bands I've never heard of before, just kind of cruising around, meeting new people and seeing some good music out there.

Who's your favorite band on the tour that you haven't heard of before?

Adam: That I didn't hear before this tour? Fake Problems.

I just watched them, they're great live. So is there anything else you want to tell our readers?

Adam: Yeah. We have the new album, We Dont Stand A Chance and you should go to amtaximusic.com or facebook.com/amtaxi and we look forward to seeing everybody, if not on Warped Tour, then we look forward to seeing everybody in the fall.
