I was the one fortunate enough to review Visions
when it was released in 2012. It immediately marked Grimes
as one of the premier artists making music today, but I was terrified she was going to be a one-trick pony. I was worried there would be no way she could come close to matching the brilliance of "Oblivion."
Praise the heavens that I couldn't have been more wrong.
A while back, Grimes released the single, "Go," which had originally been written for Rihanna. For reasons I will never fully understand, Ri-Ri passed on the Blood Diamonds produced track. It was a stunning fusion of Grimes typical futuristic sonic ambition with a drugged out re-tool of the bass drops and wubs of modern EDM. And it showed that Grimes wasn't standing still or that her next record would be Visions 2.0
. Well, Miss Claire Boucher dropped "Go"'s video today, and it is absolutely what you would expect from avant-pop's strangest chanteuse.
