is set to release his new album, Sonderlust
, on September 16th and the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has been preparing his fans for the LP by releasing two singles, "Say Yeah" and "Hey Big Star," earlier this summer. Now Kishi Bashi has revealed a heartwarming video for his second single, "Hey Big Star."
The video starts off a little like a short film: A neon green streak twirls around the title of the track on top of a purple screen as morphed violin strings play. Kishi Bashi took an anime-style approach to this video (Sailor Moon vibes) about three friends who are hanging out in a bedroom when they look out the window to see a shooting star. So naturally, the boys wish to be musicians when they grow up.
But as the video goes on, it shows one of the boys going through stages of growing up, according to society's norm: going to school, riding a subway train in a business suit and working a desk job. But he never loses sight of the star that he once wished on. The optimistic, joyous track - driven by synths, upbeat bass lines and happy handclaps - is now accompanied by a fitting video that embodies the clear message to always "reach for the stars." The infectiously happy track combined with the music video for "Hey Big Star" will give you all the motivation you need to get through the rest of the week.
