Muse clings fiercely to its identity as a band that eludes easy classification. On their latest album, that means venturing into the bumpy terrain of "dubstep." Dubstep is considered territory more familiar to those musicians of perpetual-fratstarhood.
Muse tempers the heavy bass of dubstep with a soft melodic voice, tailoring the vibe to a less party-hardy audience. As a result, it's not necessarily grating, though it's also not especially interesting. But don't worry if you don't like it very much, if Muse is half as changeable as they'd have you believe, their next album will sound nothing like this. And if your a fan of their dalliance with dub, check out the whole album,
The 2nd Law, which will be out on October 2nd.
