Featuring fleeting, futuristic vocal melodies from Raphaelle Standell-Preston over driving, low-key beats from Alex Cowan, Blue Hawaii took us to outer space for 28 minutes and almost left us there for good.
The duo from Montreal started off slow, placing more distant songs earlier in the set. As the performance moved forward, so did the styles. Standell-Preston's silky-smooth vocals were the highlight of the set, serving as a stark contrast to her off-the-wall, bubbly comments throughout. While we might not be talking about the drink, this Blue Hawaii is also best served on a warm summer night and it will take you to another planet and back before the tide flows in.
