Ariel Pink, chief artist behind Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti has cultivated a unique brand of freak folk/psychedelic pop goodness. He charmed his way into the hearts of indie big-shots Animal Collective, and the band played guardian angel when they released his first album on their record label. Now, with an upcoming second album set to be released in August, Ariel Pink is giving us a quick tease of what's to come with this latest release, the lovely "Only in My Dreams." With simple instrumentation, accentuated by a playful xylophone, the rich vocals are the main display piece. While the track is quiet and unassuming, the complex vocal layering gives it a whimsical intricacy. The lyrics are simple, but the dizzying, ethereal texture makes it anything but. Still, the song maintains a lightness like that of whispy smoke rings. Pink has created a water-colored dreamland.
