If you were around during the 70s and 80s then you certainly were aware of the music of Journey and the Doobie Brothers. Two bands that literally have stood the test of time, bandmates, singers and musical styles. Their music is no doubt iconic in their own right so when the San francisco Fest 2016 tour stopped by Nikon Theater at Jones Beach, I was hoping for a greatest hits collection of music that evening. Along with opening act Dave Mason, both the Doobie Brothers and Journey did not disappoint. At least from a song selection point of view and their energy of performance. This is a tour absolutely worth catching this summer, and lets face it, How many more times will we be able to catch such a line up.
Rather then speculate what the future may consist of for either band and supply a review of this particular show and set list (which was fantastic btw), I thought it might fun to reminisce about certain memories that I had associated with the bands. These memories are such a great connection for me to some of their greatest hits, by either band.
Journey has played such a huge part to the soundtrack to not only my life, but many of all our lives. Founded by guitar badass Neal Schon. Their music dominated the 70s and 80s. Numerous platinum records to their names, Journey embodied what is known as the the power rock band. In 2007 the band welcomed new current lead singer Arnel Pineda who was actually discovered on YouTube. How freaking awesome is that? Full Disclaimer - One of my favorite things to do is to play the second part of their album Revelation. It has all their hits re-recorded with Arnel Pineda.
What I really think stands out for me is that their music has been in countless TV shows and movies, all which part of some of most classic moments in that particular movie. Only the Young in Vision Quest starring Matthew Modine is just absolutely off the charts filled with 80s cheese and action, yet its Journey's track in the movie that sets the tone. What about Caddyshack. How can you not think of Rodney Dangerfield blasting music from his golf bag on the golf course with Judge Smails losing his shit nearby? What song does he blast? Any way you want it by Journey of course. It was the HBO hit series The Sopranos where Journey really hit a home run. Unless you were living under a rock, the final scene of one of the most popular TV shows in american history features the Journeys number one hit Dont Stop Believing.
Journey - Only The Young
Caddyshack - Any Way You Want
Talladega Nights - Faithfully
Same holds true with the Doobie Brothers. I have always liked their music, but it was their appearance on the show Whats Happening that is drilled into my memory. I will never forget Rog calling the Doobie Brothers in their hotel room or Rog, Dwayne and Re-Run front row at their concert and Re-Run gets caught illegally recording the show. Absolutely hilarious and as Rog likes to say Which Doobie You Be?"

Doobie or Not Doobie Part 1
These are two Hall of Fame worthy bands that you must see live right now. Its refreshing to see actual rock bands doing their thing and not hiding behind a major electronic production. So start believing and catch them live before the summer is over.
