Lissie is from Illinois and, as she's quick to point out, that Midwestern, Heartland-y directness is her thing. You can hear it in the music (also,
at our Guest Apartment) and, if you're into primetime dramas, you probably have -- Lissie's music has shown up on
The OC (oldie but goodie) and, more notably,
Grey's Anatomy. Her sound is straightforward and melodic so it's suited for the punchy emotional moments that those shows call for, but her gorgeous, gravelly-around-the-edges voice and soul-searching lyricism have endeared many to her music.
"Bully" comes from Lissie's new album,
Catching A Tiger, which arrives stateside August 17 via Fat Possum -- it's a piano-led, guitar-drenched build of a song that showcases Lissie's folk rock influences as well as that stunner of a voice. Grab it below. -
