After releasing their massively successful 2012 LP Handwritten, The Gaslight Anthem told Rolling Stone that its follow-up would be something "completely different." With the release of said album, entitled Get Hurt, just over a month away, we're finally beginning to grasp just how far the New Jersey icons intended on going to revise their sound.

Unfortunately, after hearing both singles shared from Get Hurt, The Gaslight Anthem's evolution into something "completely different" seems to have taken them in the direction of radio-friendly dad-rock. Sure, "Rollin' and Tumblin'" had a little bit of rumble, but it has the feel of an overly jangly parody of the true Gaslight Anthem. And today, the group released the album's title track, which at its core has the potential of a classic Gaslight slow-burn ballad, but ends up rolling off like one of the countless easy-listening rock one-hits of the mid-90s. Get Hurt is due out August 19th. Pre-order your copy here.
