Fleet Foxes drummer
J. Tillman has been putting it down long before he started working with the similarly folk-inflected, long-haired and bearded Robin Pecknold and crew. His next solo offering arose out of recording sessions with the legendary Steve Albini who has had his hand in the production of a huge percentage of indie rock over the last few decades. Tillman's seventh album comes out in September and you can stream the stripped-down "Three Sisters" below.
The song clocks in around the six-and-a-half minute mark and features a spare rhythm and a simple guitar riff. It's pretty serious and a little dark, but as usual, Tillman's vocals, lyrics ("I have no need to conquer men/I see no need for needy friends"), and sense of composition easily rival anything he's done with his more famous project.
