David Byrne and
Fatboy Slim collaborated on a concept album called
Here Lies Love about the life of Imelda Marcos (former First Lady of the Phillipines) with a startling 22 guest vocalists, released this past April.
There are a bunch of big names among them, ranging from Santigold to St. Vincent to Cyndi Lauper. Titled "How Are You?",
Nellie McKay's track is a jazzy number with more apparent connections to her own music than to either David Byrne's or Fatboy Slim's. It's a fun track, though like a lot of what I've heard from the album it doesn't seem quite as strong as the individual artists' solo work &mdash but between the crazy collaborations and the really bizarre topic for a pop record, this is at the very least an interesting phenomenon worth checking out. -
