During SXSW 2015 I embarrassed myself in one of those total fan boy moments that never go according to plan, gushingly introducing myself to the guys in X Ambassadors at a showcase the day before they were scheduled to play our party. Sam and Noah were so amazingly gracious to me (the only white-haired guy at SX?) and apologized for their poor performance that day, promising to be better for our party the next day. True to their word, the band knocked it out of the park on our stage less than 24 hours later.
Last July I went to see the band again at Central Parks Summerstage, where they opened for Milky Chance
. While their opening set was far too short, the band delivered an incendiary set for the stoner cool kids still filing in to groove to Milky Chance. After the event, I fired off a cranky email to X Ambassador's publicist, declaring they were far too big to be opening and that they absolutely owned center stage. I also recall sending an incredibly presumptuous email to the band's manager complaining about the poor selection of merch on hand. I bought a t-shirt anyway.
Well, all of this feels like ancient history at this point. On May 13th, less than a year after the band's opening set at Summerstage, the band returned home to headline a packed show at New York's Terminal 5. It was a big moment and the band knew it. They filmed the show and released four videos from this amazing night today on YouTube that we have assembled into a playlist for easy watching.
A must watch! Guaranteed to make your day better!
If things keep trending upwards, by this time next year we'll no doubt be geeking out with the band at the Garden. Couldn't be happening to a nicer, more talented group of men, if you ask me.
Also, here's the aforementioned set from the band's appearance at our SXSW Party in 2015.
