As if we weren't eager enough to hear their August release, The War On Drugs have released another track that will cover you in a blanket of emotions, pulling at your heartstrings while simultaneously making you feel less alone. With this winning combination, "Strangest Thing" perfectly sets the tone for the upcoming record, A Deeper Understanding.
When a song is so effective, it's hard to put it into words. While "Nostalgic" is what immediately comes to mind, it doesn't cover half of how the song will make you feel. That being said, it's a good place to start. The instrumentals are like a dream, one filled with good times you hope to never forget. The lyrics are both imaginative and relatable in places. When Adam Granduciel questions, "Am I just living in the space between the beauty and the pain?" the track encapsulates everything that's great about The War On Drugs.
With the original single that was released earlier in the year "Thinking of A Place," as well as the video for their track "Holding On," the vibe and intention of A Deeper Understanding is clear. The album is shaping up to be an introspective and quietly impactful one, that's all about demonstrating how music and memories go hand in hand.
