Canadian artist Al Spx, who answers to her pseudonym Cold Specks, recently found herself nominated for the Poloris Prize in her native Canada. It's an obvious honor and listening to the soulful doom and gloom of the music she dabbles in, you can hear why. Not unlike fellow Canadian crooner Timber Timbre, Spx's is the stuff that's born of the shadows...no surprise then that she snatched her namesake from James Joyce's Ulysses ("Born all in the dark wormy earth, cold specks of fire, evil, lights shining in the darkness").
Spx recently recorded a four-part video series at Hoxton Hall, in her adopted home of London. The video here plays out to the tune of "Hector", from her album I Predict A Graceful Expulsion.
