Considering the unforgiving July sun, our roof can be the most brutal of places to perform. Not so for Missy Higgins, an Aussie songstress who kept her cool through three songs from her new album The Ol' Razzle Dazzle. You'd be hard-pressed to pick which one is "the single" so to speak -- each song was immediate, meticulously crafted to pluck up the ears and tug on the heart components. Higgins finds an amazing way of painting plain words with bright, spastic colors, creating mercurial phrases out of the most commonplace of expressions. She has the kind of quality that shines through any level of arrangement, from fully orchestrated tracks to nothing but a bare piano and her voice.
