If there's any festival worthy of a "Best of NYC" title, it goes to 4Knots. The all-day, FREE event engages native New Yorkers and tourists alike with tunes from the best bands and yummiest food trucks. South Street Seaport was a breezy, comfortable location where the audience had some room to breathe and dance to the likes of Those Darlins and Mac DeMarco once the crowd started to grow. The fact that this fest is completely free is pretty astounding; it's clear Village Voice has a great team behind it.
4Knots' lineup acts as a up-and-comer music psychic with last year's bands including Parquet Courts and White Lung. This year's lineup was no exception, with people like Juan Wauters and Speedy Ortiz dominating the early performances to a packed crowd. Without a doubt, the true 4Knots heroes were Nashville rockers Those Darlins, whose setlist included a great cover of The Crystal's "Then He Kissed Me" and Bob Dylan's "The Man In Me".
