As a country of breathtaking views, ancient heritage, and home of great musical talent, Iceland has something new to stamp its name on with composer Ivar Pall Jonsson. His new concept album, Revolution in the Elbow of Ragnar Agnarsson Furniture Painter
, tells a compelling and unique tale of life within a man's elbow. The album knits its story of love, war and kinship through 18 dignified rock tracks, making it emphatically reminiscent of The Who's Tommy
or David Bowie's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
. With influences for the album including Radiohead
, Grizzly Bear
, and Sufjan Stevens
, the album stretches beyond rock's generational borders.
Revolution in the Elbow of Ragnar Agnarsson Furniture Painter
features Liam McCormick of the Family Crest, Jonssons Revolution Cellular Orchestra, and an astonishing lineup of Icelandic singers, including Stefan Orn Gunnlaugsson of IKORNI. Not only is the album itself a creative masterpiece, but is also opening as an off-Broadway theater production on July 28th. Adding a visual dimension to the album's story, the production will star Tony winner Cady Huffman and former Miss America Kate Shindle.
All New Yorkers, make sure to check out the album's release show tomorrow night, June 15th, at 8 PM at Rockwood Music Hall's Stage 2. The show, featuring Liam McCormick and acclaimed Icelandic singer Soffia Bjorg, is sure to be impressive.
