10 Musicians You Need To Follow On Twitter

Bored with Twitter? Want to hear the random, unfiltered thoughts of someone new and exciting? As you may know, musicians are generally creative, free spirited and fun loving people. When someone like that is able to communicate to thousands of bored fans on a second-to-second basis, there's no limit to the hilarity that can ensue. Well, Twitter has bridged the gap between bored fans and bored artists. Here are 10 of our favorite musicians who have made great music all while enchanting us in 140 characters or less.

Click the artists' names to be directed to their Twitter accounts.

10. A.C. Newman (The New Pornographers)

A.C. Newman will tweet about anything from critiques of city bike lane policies to looking for input on what color to release his band's new vinyl on. The opening track off his recent full-length, "I'm Not Talking" contradicts his gabby habit. Listen below.

9. Guster

Guster is one of the goofiest and fan friendly bands out there. They tweet funny jokes, as well as retweet an astounding amount of Burton Guster's thoughts (from the TV show Psych). They also do even more odd promotions like when my girlfriend found out she was supposed to bring a potted plant to a show in PA. Listen to my personal favorite Guster song below.

8. Ryan Hemsworth

Canadian EDM artist Ryan Hemsworth's tweets won't make sense to innocent bystanders, but those with a taste for awkward and bizarre humor will find his one-liners and rando RTs appealing. Plus his profile has got some great flare.

7. Jon Wurster (Superchunk, The Mountain Goats)

This drummer cranks out some funny stuff, like this wonderful reference to Matthew McConaughey's greatest performance. Here's a throwback from Superchunk that'll make you want to seize every moment of the summer.

6. Colin Meloy (The Decemberists)

Front man for The Decemberists Colin Meloy studied literature, and it's evident in the witty jokes he cracks on Twitter. Here's a great tune from the band, which attests to his striking writing ability.

5. John Roderick (The Long Winters)

John Roderick, the face of The Long Winters, likes to talk about his day in a roundabout way - like here with the announcement of his distaste for mosquitos.

4. Chief Keef

Chief Keef has already gotten in trouble for tweeting out some promiscuous pictures. Despite some disgruntled onlookers, he's still at it and keeps it real, and always ridiculous.

3. Rhett Miller (Old 97's)

The Old 97's area a self-proclaimed loud folk band, so it's pretty funny to see their frontman utilizing social media like he does. Even if you don't think all of his jokes are funny, he does talk about new songs from time to time. Watch him live at SXSW in 2012.

2. Har Mar Superstar

Modern day Renaissance man Har Mar Superstar is known for putting on an outrageous show. His Twitter emulates his brilliance perfectly. Just what you'd expect from a singer/stripper. Follow him, love him, dance with him.

1. Weird Al Yankovich

If the world's greatest polka pop artist can write masterpieces like "Livin' In The Fridge" and "Pancreas" we're pretty sure he can occupy your time on Twitter.
