• Top 10 Male-Female Rock Duos
These days, there seem to be more and more rock bands featuring one guy and one girl. While most of these duos feature female lead vocals, there is some great harmonization made possible by having the male voice available as well. With apologies to Matt and Kim, here are the best current ones out there:

    10.The Rosebuds

Like The White Stripes before them, The Rosebuds are a band that has continued to make music despite the pair's previous divorce. The Raleigh duo has opened for Bon Iver, and Ivan Howard and Kelly Crisp make clean, and pardon my pun, crisp indie folk.

    9.Tennis

You can tell that Denver's Tennis are made up of a husband-and-wife, as their old-school songs sound like something two sweethearts would dance to fifty years ago. Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley, who have released two albums since 2011, make irresistible, punchy music that is draped in nostalgia.

    8.Widowspeak

Widowspeak's first two albums, 2011's self-titled debut and 2013's Almanac contain hazy, surprisingly melodic tunes. Molly Hamilton's dreamy voice paired with Robert Earl Thomas' unpredictable guitar riffs makes for fluent, wholly enjoyable indie rock songs.

    7.She and Him

New Girl Zooey Deschanel and Monster of Folk M. Ward have been cranking out upbeat, slightly jangly pop for five years now. Considering how busy both of its members are, it is impressive that She and Him continue to put out music at such a fast pace, as this year's Volume Three is their fourth album total, including 2011's very pleasant Christmas album.

    6.Wye Oak

Named after the state tree of their home state of Maryland, Wye Oak's Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack create powerful folk rock that contains twinges of stranger indie noise-rock. Despite Wasner's side-project Dungeonesse releasing an album this year, dont expect 2011's fantastic Civilian to be the band's final record.

    5.Sleigh Bells

Alexis Krauss and Derek E. Miller's 2010 debut, Treats used loud, yet rhythmically precise guitars to create catchy songs that sounded like nothing else put out that year. The Brooklyn noise-poppers continued to combine metallic riffs and throbbing beats on last years follow-up, Reign of Terror.

    4.The Kills

After taking a break so lead singer Alison Mosshart could record and tour with Jack White's The Dead Weather, The Kills returned in 2011 with Blood Pressures. The sexy-yet-scary Mosshart teamed up with guitarist Jamie Hince ten years ago to release their first record, and have not stopped making music, as "VV" and "Hotel" are currently working on a new album.

    3.The Civil Wars

After 2011's Barton Hollow won Grammy awards for Best Folk Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance, the Nashville-based duo went on hiatus due to some internal discord. Lucky for us, Joy Williams and John Paul White will be releasing their second album, The Civil Wars, on August 6 despite these differences.

    2.Cults

Garage-poppers Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion blend elements of 60s-style rock with more contemporary punk to create a confident, complete sound. These New York City via California rockers burst onto the scene two summers ago with their first album, and we hope to hear more of Madeline's smooth vocals and Brian's supportive guitar riffs in the near future.

    1.Beach House

Baltimore's Victoria Legrand and Alex Scully have made Beach House one of the biggest names in indie rock since their self-titled debut was released in 2006. With last year's celestial success Bloom, Beach House have solidified their role as the best dream pop band around.
