Prince Rama of Ayodhya, a Brooklyn trio recently endorsed by
Avey Tare of Animal Collective in this month's issue of NME, sound as exotic as the name suggests.
"Aeolian Divine", taken from the
Architecture of Utopia EP released a few months ago, is truly remarkable: a nine and a half-minute acid-drenched journey through various strands of South and East Asian religious music complete with bells, synths, and vocals that sound like they were recorded in a monastery. Over the nearly ten minute duration of "Aeolian Divine", the song has a variety of movements, separated by twinkling synth washes and culminating in a cathartic chant of the title phrase. It really sounds like nothing else.
Prince Rama releases their new album,
Shadow Temple, in September on Paw Tracks.-
