In case you were unaware, Governors Ball was cancelled yesterday due to weather, leaving thousands of ticketholders disappointed in the wake of the news. While those involved with the Panorama Festival, are probably more than happy with the news, the rest of us are pissed, to say the least. Yesterday was the biggest day for the festival and boasted performances from artists such as CHVRCHES, Two Door Cinema Club, Vic Mensa, Vince Staples, Chet Faker, and the man of the hour, Kanye West. With the last announcement about the festival posted yesterday at 12:15 pm, the staff is currently working to issue refunds to all of its patrons. With Governors Ball staff is fixing the situation in a fair manner, it still left plenty of disappointed customers. In order to give the people what they wanted, several artists took matters into their own hands last night.
Vic Mensa had the best-named makeup show last night which was suitably titled the Rain Check. The first 150 people that showed up to the event were given free tickets, while the remainder of fans only had to pay $10.
Courtney Barnett was the last artist that performed on SNL this season, so anticipation for her performance was also very high. To whet fans appetites, the Australian artist played last night at Williamsburg's Rough Trade NYC for free.
PROPHETS OF RAGE
Last night Prophets of Rage performed at The Warsaw with $10 tickets for those that had Gov Ball passes and $20 tickets for everyone else. The political band stuck to its roots by donating all of last night's proceeds to the Why Hunger non-profit organization.
TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB
The indie rock band known as Two Door Cinema Club performed last night at the Music Hall of Williamsburg and priced their tickets the same way as Prophets of Rage. Tickets were $10 for those with Gov Ball passes and $20 tickets for everyone else with all of the proceeds going to the Save the Children charity.
I know people love to hate on the man, but last night Yeezy tried his hardest to give the people what they wanted. Kanye made a surprise appearance at Hot 97's SummerJam and performed alongside his G.O.O.D Music label mates for what was surely an awesome set. After SummerJam Kanye planned to perform in celebration of his birthday at Webster Hall at 2 in the morning. What began as a noble pursuit to please the people, turned into the East Village being flooded by about 4,000 fans that wanted nothing more than to see Kanye live. Ultimately, the show was cancelled and the NYPD was able to safely clear the streets. However, as seen in the video below, Mr. West was so dedicated to his cause that he was willing to throw a block party for disgruntled fans.
