  • New Music Video: fun.
Fun. spent the first minute or so of their new "Some Nights" video setting the scene for the Civil War. Then cue the dramatic entrance of the band, rallying against the Confederates. Half love story and half battle scene, "Some Nights" isn't even kind of related to fun.'s previous video for "We Are Young" (the more hipster-esque) of the two. This time the band aimed for a more cinematic approach, somewhere between History Channel special and costume drama.

As the opening scene implies, fun. is trying to be more epic with this video. A lengthy lead-up suggests that they are going to spend a lot of time on plot in the video, however half the shots are of fun. performing. This, when juxtaposed with the Civil War love story, gives the video a disjointed feel. By the time the video ends it isn't made clear what exactly happens -- they go to war, one guy takes a bath, there's a letter and then the video ends. But the battle had a great soundtrack!

In the beginning lead man, Nate Ruess gives the troops a motivational speech, complete with lots of arm flailing. In another scene, they're stand in the middle of the battle field like drummer boys, but with xylophones and guitars. "Some Nights" matches its video in energy, but the two don't seem to fit together seamlessly, rather, the idea seems built on the song's first words and the idea of having the band as well-equipped drummer boys. You be the judge.
