's video for their newest single, "Goodbye Soleil" will make you want to savor your favorite flavor of gelato on a European beach. The heavy use of Italian beach imagery in this video perfectly meshes with the lackadaisical synths of the track, which is the third single released ahead of their upcoming album Ti Amo,
scheduled for release this Friday, June 9th.
The blurry, 1980's quality of the video seems to have been inspired by one of the outdated educational short films often shown in public school health classes and lifeguard certification training. The amateur video flavor is enhanced by camera shots that are haphazardly, yet tastefully chosen. My personal favorites include the close-up of a pale pink carousel elephant and the brief, sly wink from Phoenix bassist Deck D'arcy. And of course, several shots of gelato that are no less tantalizing for the fuzzy picture quality.
Over the weekend, Phoenix also tweeted a brief video showing several stops on their summer tour backed by 51 seconds of another song, "Role Model" from the much anticipated Ti Amo
. The French indie sensations just left the east coast after playing at Gov Ball this past weekend, but if the "Goodbye Soleil" video really made you yearn for the shores of Italy, the band will be touring extensively in Europe throughout July.
