The music video for
Coldplay's "Princess of China ft. Rihanna" begins with Chris Martin slo-mo walking in the desert towards (something that looks like) a traditional Chinese building. Presumably in the building, Rihanna lounges on a couch in ambigous Eastern Asian costume. There is a brief sword combat scene between Chris Martin and a ninja-like character...not the first of brief slo-mo scenes. Others include Martin and Rihanna floating up in the nights sky in robes and a long fingure nailed, multiple armed Rihanna in a slinky black dress. No, this is not a Quentin Tarantino film.
The video was directed by Adria Petty and Alan Bibby. I give kudos to the production creativity -- the music video depicts various settings and tries to be reminiscent of a contemporary kung-fu(esque) film. It's entertaining and a good watch if you enjoy slo-mo reunions between assumed star crossed lovers, however, it's probably not for you if you're weary of campy combat and either love or hate any form of kung-fu.
