California based Julia Holter just released a new, independently recorded album titled Ekstasis. Her new track "Our Sorrows" exhibits the intimate sounds of the home recording methods Holter used. Holter's education in classical piano serves her well as the underlying chorus beneath her popesque tune. The music video for "Our Sorrows" shows Holter playfully wrapping ribbon around her various surroundings. The music video moves through a set of moving images: a line of hands passing ribbon, Holter sitting and constructing crafts, Holter at a bus stop, a bus ride, and a nature trail. A little disjointed, a bit whimsical. Holter's airy soprano echoes over a chorus of people speaking, an operatic tune, and instrumental beats. The repeated verse "If you call out/I will follow you" sounds almost like a chant, and the shots of Holter slowly moving through her ethereal world match up perfectly.
