The aggressive, energetic tunes of These United States sometimes sound like a riot, and they are a riot to talk to (personal experience), but no one could have predicted the band would be caught in a literal riot in the middle of Toronto. The band was scheduled to play the Horseshoe Tavern on June 26th, when instead they were caught in the middle of the G-20 protests in the Financial District. Video after the jump!

Front man Jesse Elliot had this to say:

"In a sense, it became a night off for everyone. Or maybe it was a night on. People burned cop cars, riot police were called in, people burned more cop cars, they had to cancel our show with Thao and Mirah, some Canadians were sad, some were happy, all of us were trapped, and the Horseshoe Tavern became the epicenter of action, escape, and inebriation for protesters, local pool sharks, and sundry ne'er-do-wells alike."

The video captures a car being lit on fire, riot police, and a few personal interviews. Check it out:

Crazy!

The band is out touring to promote their new record, What Lasts, out 7/20 via United Interests. Check out their set at our SXSW Scoot Inn party below. -joe puglisi
