There's no denying Sweden's history of purveying ample amounts of iconic pop. And perhaps that's how the country's latest mainstream musical export came up with their name: Icona Pop. The U.S. masses were introduced to the female duo's music with the ever so infectious single "I Love It" featuring our favorite little Brit badass Charli XCX. But over the weekend, the DJ duo shared their "Girlfriend", their latest single that's as dull as they come.
The song's chorus is a cover of Jay-Z and Beyonce's "Bonnie and Clyde", which itself samples Tupac's "Me and My Girlfriend". So as far as originality is concerned, this single is about as watered down as an Applebees margarita - which means teenagers will love this shit. It almost sounds fake. Enjoy!
Charli XCX, however, remains great. Watch her blow the roof off Hype Hotel down in Austin.
