Indie rock goddess Angel Olsen
has released a second song (along with a video, BLESS US) "Shut Up Kiss Me" off her forthcoming album My Woman
out September 2 and fortunately, it looks like the silver wig is here to stay. We see Olsen standing on top of a car, skating around a rink, and chilling on a bench outside at night in a green bomber jacket, beautifully executing a retro aesthetic.
This release is pretty mysterious thus far and it may be too soon to tell, but it looks like Olsen is having a little more fun with My Woman.
She raised the bar for herself two years ago when she released her last album, Burn Your Fire For No Witness,
which was named A.V. Club's Album of the Year.
Technically, she doesn't seem to be moving too far away from her typical sound -- her voice remains the star of the show and the music is still purely guitar-driven, however, something has changed. Stylistically, the production is sleeker and the mood seems to be more upbeat, happier... Maybe this is simply because everything has been accompanied with a video that features her dancing around in a shiny wig and roller skates. We don't know for sure yet. But what we do
know is that this is shaping up to be a promising record and Olsen is mastering effortless badassery better than anyone else in the game right now.
